Mah Band!

I have news: I'm in a band! I joined a few months ago (which also explains why the blogging has been so slow as of late). We play covers of bands like Blind Melon, Radiohead and the Pretty Reckless. Yea, a very um, eclectic mix, but it works. I was invited to join by one of my students, Carmen (Her graduation was a couple of weeks ago, and it was so great! I'm proud.) She plays bass. Her friends, Rica and Elvis are brothers and they both play guitar, and Gollo is our drummer. They're all decent, fun people, and it's been awesome. I'm really happy with how things have turned out so far, and more so now that I get to rehearse at the Casa de la Música, The House of Music, home of drunken musicians with loose morals all around these parts for years. Not that I fit that description, per se, but there is some sort of strange appeal to the place for me. It's the place where many of my friends and bands that I look up to used to rehearse. Things have changed, it's not the party house it used to be. We actually just rehearse, for the most part.

Just last weekend we had our first gig: we opened at our friends' birthday party. Yes, friends in plural. Three of our friends got together to celebrate their birthdays, and it was a rockin' B.Y.O.B. bash. Although we have a long ways to go, I think we did alright, and we got plenty of applause. Gotta keep practicing, and maybe soon I'll be singing my lungs out at bars again, haha!

I also want to share with you the magazine I created for school. It's titled Shuffle. This was a final project, one of the last few I'll have to do before I graduate this fall!!! *sigh of relief* I'm very proud to say that I wrote and designed all of it :)

We got to play at a popular rock venue in our town just a couple of weeks ago. We opened for a great band, Masiosare. Things went great despite the fact that I was sick, we even got an encore ;)
